We started out working on the basement. After much debate, we decided to divide the large room into two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a large walk-in closet.
Notice the large white ductwork running along the wall above the door on the right. We removed the old ductwork and gutted the ceiling in order to place all the new ductwork in the ceiling.

The old ductwork has been removed, and the ceilings are stripped. We laid out where all the rooms are going to be in white tape on the floor. Because we are going to put in a bathroom, we had to to cut out and rip up the concrete floor so we could install drains and water lines in the floor.
The concrete was over 5 inches thick which created some challenges. However, it wasn't anything that a big cement saw, a jack hammer and a lot of sweat couldn't handle. We also had to throw the concrete pieces out the windows and hawl them away.
After removing the concrete, the next step was to take out 2 feet of dirt to put in the plumbing.
Then the plumbing pipes were installed in the floor and we filled in the area with new cement.
Finally it's time to start framing up the walls!
New Windows!
We added insulation and new air ducts for heating/cooling.
Drywall and paint.
The Fireplace.
Finally we are ready for the floor: hand-scraped engineered wood floors.
We installed the trim and the doors.
We added carpet to the two bedrooms and walk-in closet. All the floors in the basement are finally finished!
Finally, it's time to add furniture!
